Isnt it annoying when the CDRW you want to erase starts auto-running!
* Run regedit
* Select "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CdRom"
* Change "Autorun" value from "1" to "0"
Update: Better yet, hold the shift key down.
Woah, who would have thought I'd post something about opera here. At the Download.com Opera 8.02 page, they have this little footnote:
Note: For one day only, you can get an ad-free version of Opera. Simply e-mail registerme@opera.com to obtain a registration code. This offer is valid from 12 a.m. Tuesday, August 30 to 12 a.m. Wednesday, August 31 2005 (PDT).
Not too shabby, I guess. Here goes an email
PS: Of course firefox is and will always be free. But evaluating the wannabe once in a while isnt too bad.
Gerv linked to a Nvu tutorial at thesitewizard.
Linked from that page is a list of free utilities hosted by thefreecountry.com.
Useful stuff. No links to crapware.
CNET is reporting that Google plans to double Gmail capacity and then gradually keep increasing it, essentially making it bottomless. I checked my gmail account, and indeed, they've already raised from 1000 to 1120MB.
In response to some comments on my buh-bye wordpress post, I'll ask the question - What's the motivation to switch to WP anymore?
Its clear that both MT and WP need money. MT chose the legal way. WP developer chose the dubious path. As pointed out in the mz thread, its a question of trust. I dont have the time and energy to research something that might be dubious, and that's sufficient to turn-off a potential switch.
With regards to abundant defense of the said action, many people have pointed out its not 'spam'. Who cares? To me, search results manipulation is equally offensive.
Following Jesse's switch from MT to WP, I had decided to give it a shot. Infact, only yesterday, I had a test blog ready
Today, there's news that WordPress lead developer tried to manipulate google search results.
So my blogs are going to powered by MT and Blogger for some more time.

That's it from my side.. there are just way too many gmail invites floating around. If you've not got one, and I know you at MZ, send me a PM
Ok, this will be the final gmail related blog post from me. Looks like gmail renews the 3 to 5 invites I'm getting everyday, so I pretty much always have invites. Of course that doesnt mean I'm going to give them to google-searchers. You still have to be a mozillazine forums member to get an invite.

Update:
No more gmail invites from me.. there are plenty of them around the web.
I've got a couple of spare invites.
The rules of the game are simpler:
You have to be a mozillazine forums member. I'll pick the ones whose posts I've appreciated.
Leave a comment and make the URL link back to your mozillazine forums profile.
It was a no-brainer!

Update:
More mozilla gmail around the blogosphere:
Asa and Pavlov are holding contests for gmail accounts.
Google wants me to invite some more friends to gmail.
Rather than invite non-techies who use email once a week, I'm more inclined to invite mozilla lovers.
If you want an invite, drop a comment indicating your current mozilla activity, and make the url link back to your homepage or your mozillazine user profile.
My order of priority would be
- someone willing to patch bug 223636 or bug 220022 ;-)
- people I know
- mozilla hackers
- mozillazine members (atleast since 2003)
If you found this page by searching for 'gmail invite', and are not related to mozilla, don't bother commenting.
Upgraded to Movable Type 3.0 Free Edition
Asa reports that blogger gets a new look. Too bad I shifted both my blogs to MT yesterday.
Looks like they added comments, but no trackback yet.
As a long-time blogger user, we invite you to use gmail!
Woohoo! Its great.
- 1000MB is good to start with :)
- Labels instead of folders is a GREAT idea.
- Archive mails so they dont clutter your inbox, but are still searchable.
- Messages grouped automatically as conversations (Outlook-ish)
Any gripes? No POP access..
After weeks of procrastination, finally installed linux on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 2435).
My primary 'fear' was resizing the ntfs winxp partition.
Read somewhere that mandrake linux can do that.
So, downloaded Mandrake10 CD1 ISO image and burnt a CDRW.
Duh, windows copied the .iso file as-it-is to the CD.
Downloaded ISO recorder powertoy
Worked like a charm.
The install process was quick and easy. Linux install has come a long way since I tried Red Hat 6.
Surprise 1: Detected USB mini mouse very early on.
Surprise 2: Successfully detected HP printer once I switched it on
Surprise 3: Display settings worked the first time.
Next steps:
- Fix lilo to default boot into windows.
- Connect to ftp.mozilla.org and download firefox
- Make it detect my linksys wireless card
- Install a decent windows manager
Upgraded to a recent nightly.
Blogger "New post" section is greyed out. Scrolling down lets you post. Whats up?
Like it or not, Word and Excel are far better than their counterparts in openoffice or any other suit. I had switched to openoffice when 1.1.0 came out, and as of today - i switch back. Its obscene load time is unbearable, esp. considering that my laptop is no slouch - 2.4G P4 / 512 MB.
Added RSS feed for musings
Moved my website to 2mhost.com
