There's been renewed debate recently on Firebird Vs Seamonkey. Its time for the user community to speak up.
I do not understand why Seamonkey isnt dead already. It seems that mozilla drivers took the decision that the birds will replace the monkey, but were not proactive about implementing it. If they were, mozilla 1.5 would have been delayed by a few months, but would have shipped with the birds as the frontend.
Here's a old management story: A professor in a reputed management school was demonstrating something in the class. He opened a jar, and placed some big rocks in it until the brim. He then asked his students - "Is the jar full?". The answer was a chorus "YES". He then pulled out some small rocks from his drawer, and filled them in. Again he asked "Is the jar full?". His students were smart - they answered "No". Now he pulled out very small pebbles and sand, and packed the jar, and then asked the students - "Whats the moral of the story?"
One smart student replied - "No matter how packed your schedule is, you can always squeeze in more time". "No", answered the professor. "The moral is - If you dont place the big rocks first, you'll never be able to place them".
Therefore, I beg you, mozilla drivers, get the big rocks in first. Make the switch to the birds NOW! Delay 1.6 as much as needed, but do not ship it with the monkey.
Another (selfish) concern I have seen across various blogs is that many (so called) independant developers do not like the new end user focus. They want mozilla to remain a secret from Joe Sixpack. They just want a browser for themselves, not for the general public. Therefore I implore you, readers, to speak up. Show the world that the whiners are in minority. Show them that the public is waiting for the birds.
