Opera is lying

A few days back, mozillazine reported that Firefox has been named as product of the year by PC World. The 100 Best Products list also has Maxthon at #12, and Opera at #88.

Now head over to Opera.com where they're advertising that they've been awarded the 'best browser' award by PC world for '04 and '05.

Somebody in their marketing department needs to be fired

I don't see it on the home page. Even on the press release:
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2005/06/03/
The say only "Opera once again wins PC World's World Class Award for best Web browser" which isn't technically a lie but is misleading. The word best should probably have been left out or rephrased to "in the Web Browser category".

Was something changed or am I missing something?

yep, they changed several days ago, it used to say "best browser" on its frontpage and press release.
